4 basic functions of management

Any organization has a variety of resources that must be manage by a professional management. So that these resources can give maximum contribution towards the achievement of the purposes of the organization. By definition, management can be define as a set of activities.  It may including planning and decision making, organizing, leadership and control. Direct at the Organization's resources (manpower, financial, physical and information). Which aims to achieve the objectives of the Organization in a way that is efficient and effective.

Understanding Management according to experts

  • The management is the process of achieving the objectives of the organization by working with and through the people and resources of other organizations.

  • Management is the science and art of regulating the process of exploiting human resources and other resources effectively to reach a destination.

  • A management is working with people to define, interpret, and achieve the goals of the organization with the implementation of the functions of planning, organizing, drafting personnel, direction, leadership and supervision.

  • The management is the achievement of the goals of the organization with an effective and efficient manner through planning, organizing, leadership and control of the resources of the organization.

4 basic functions of management



Base on the above definition, it is clear that the management in an organization has four basic functions. Namely planning and decision making, organizing, Leadership and control. 
That is use to manage the resources of the Organization so that achieving the specify objectives effectively and efficiently. The following is a brief discussion regarding the 4 basic functions of management.


In this definition says that the basic functions of management are planning and decision making. Basically, planning or Planning is determining the objectives of the Organization and decide how best to achieve it. While decision making is part of the Planning which deals in choosing the steps or tasks. That must be done to achieve the targets of the organization. In the planning should have a time limit to when these tasks must be carry out and who is responsible for that task.


After you create the planning and establishing the steps or tasks to achieve the goals of the Organization. Further management function is to organize the right people and other resources to run planning set. Basically, what is meant by Organizing  is delegating the tasks that have been define in the planning. To individuals or groups that are present in the corresponding organization.

In the function of organizing there are groupings of activities and the preparation of organizational structures and explains. The functions of each part and the nature of the relationship between the parts in the structure of the organization.

Conduct of The (Leading)

After setting the Planning and organizing the necessary resources. The third Function is the management of the conduct of the (Leading) or some call this management function as a direction of (Directing). Conduct of the (Leading) in management is a series of processes use in order for any Member. Who resides in the organization can work together in achieving the objectives of the organization. A manager should be able to lead, drive, drive and motivate and influence. The subordinates in order to perform the tasks that had been plan to achieve the goals/objectives of the organization.


Management functions the latter is Controlling, this Control Function related to information-gathering together. The information that may use to perform the measurement of performance against the Organization, and monitor. The development of the tasks that have been plan earlier and take corrective actions against irregularities occur. In this control function, a Manager always supervise a task or activity that was route to the achievement of the objectives of the organization which has been establish.
