20 Principles of material handling

In the production process, the raw materials are receive from suppliers will be move from a storage place. To the place of production of the raw materials for process into finish goods. Which then finished goods production will be transferred to the finish goods storage shed.

From the warehouse finished goods will then be transfer to the distributor for distribution to customers. The transfer of raw materials or finished goods must be handle properly and efficiently. So that the production process can run smoothly as plan. The removal process of raw materials or finished goods that are generally call by the Material handling process or the process of handling materials.

So basically, what is meant by Material Handling or handling of materials is a process that includes a basic operation in the movement, protection, storage and control of materials and products in the whole of creation (manufacturing), warehousing, distribution, consumption and disposal.

Overview

Process Material Handling of this material is very important because all the materials and the products must be handle properly. So that it can reach its destination safely and also to keep the condition and quality of the materials handle such.

As a process, Material Handling or handling equipment combine the various ingredients of the manual, semi-automatic or automatic systems. That can support the smooth functioning of the supply chain (supply chain) and logistics.

It can be said that the process of handling the material does not add any value on a product but will add to the cost of the product and therefore will increase the operating costs of production. That would eventually harm the company or the customer. Material Handling Material handling or bad will also result in delays and disruption to the production process. Likewise, the equipment or Machinery Production will be unemployed and cannot produce the number of the desire quantity.

Purpose Material Handling

The following are the purposes of Material Handling or Handling Material in operations management and production.

  1. Minimize Material handling costs.

  2. Minimize disruption and delays by providing the necessary materials at the right time and the right amount of as well.

  3. The productive capacity of the production facilities with capacity utilization that effectively and increase productivity.

  4. Keep security in material handling/materials through the repair work.

  5. Prevention of damage to the material or materials are handle.

  6. Reduce the costs relating to Inventories (Inventory)

20 the principle Material Handling (Materials Handling Principle 20)

The following 20 principles of Material Handling or Materials Handling Principle 20:

  1. Principles of Planning

(Planning Principle): All Handling activities should be plan.

  2. Principles of The System

(Systems Principle): integrating the activity of handling (receipt, storage, production, inspection, packing, warehousing, supply and transport) into an effective integrate system design.

  3. The principle of utilization of space

(Space Utilization Principle): Encourages the effective utilization of all available space.

  4. The Principle Charge Unit

(Unit Load Principle): increase the quantity, size and weight of the load is handle.

  5. The Principle of Gravity

(Gravity Principle): encourages the use of the principle of gravity in the movement of goods.

  6. The principle of material flow

(Material flow principle): plan a sequence of operations and equipment settings to optimize the flow of material.

  7. The Principle of Simplification

(Simplification principle): Encourage the simplification of methods and processes by removing unnecessary movement.

  8. The Principle of Salvation

(Safety Principle): Encourages the provision of a safe handling equipment in accordance with the safety rules and regulations.

  9. Principles of mechanization

(Mechanization Principle): using material handling equipment mechanical or automate to improve efficiency.

  10. The Principle of Standardization

(Standardization Principle): Encourage standardization of the methods of handling and equipment.

  11. The Principle of Flexibility

(Flexibility principle): use methods and equipment that can perform a variety of tasks and applications.

  12. The principle of election equipment

(Equipment selection Principle): Considering all aspects of the material, and the method to be use.

  13. The Principle of Weight

(Dead weight Principle): Reduce the ratio of weight to be load on the equipment moving.

  14. The principle of motion

(Motion Principle): Equipment that is design to transport the material to be kept in order to keep moving.

  15. The principle of time unemployed

(Idle time Principle): reduce the time idle/unproductive time good Material Handling equipment or manpower.

  16. The principle of treatment

(Maintenance Principle): Plan preventative maintenance or unscheduled repairs of all equipment handling.

  17. The principle of immortality

(Obsolescence Principle): replace the methods of handling obsolete equipment or when there is a method or a more efficient equipment to be able to improve operations.

  18. The principle of capacity

(Capacity Principle): use handling equipment to help reach its full capacity.

  19. The principle of control

(Control Principle): use material handling equipment to increase the control of production, inventory control and other treatments.

  20. The principle of performance

(Performance Principle): Specify the efficiency of handling performance in terms of cost per unit that handled that is the main criteria.
