What is Proactive Maintenance?

A Proactive maintenance is a preventive maintenance strategy that works to correct the root causes of failure and avoid breakdowns cause by underlying equipment conditions. The proactive maintenance approach makes it possible to perform maintenance only when necessary base on gather maintenance data.

Proactive Maintenance -basically can be define as the maintenance of the problem and find out the solution.

The purpose of this activity are:

  1. Understand the mechanism of equipment / machines;

  2. Understand the relationship between / machine with quality equipment

  3. To maximize the lifetime of the equipment / machines;

  4. The focus in identifying the root of the problem and the solution.

There are steps that must be carry out by the operators in implementing a maintenance program or a routine periodically in order to achieve the desire target. Some of the stages can be classify into three main activity categories commonly call TLC (Tighten, Lubricate, Clean).

  • Tighten and lifting activities associate with parts of equipment / machinery.

  • Lubrication activities that mean against certain parts need to avoid rust or protect the parts that are directly connect.

  • Clean which means the operator is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the engine

The third of these factors will indirectly influence the performance of the equipment / machinery so that the potential for occurrence of the failure of the function of the machine.

The implementation of maintenance routines is relatively difficult to run look at companies that are not likely to have a total problem with the company. maintenance activities (maintenance).

Proactive Maintenance Concepts

Base on the first terminology of proactive maintenance, it is state that proactive maintenance is a maintenance method that commissions corrective actions aim at the sources of failure. It is propose to extend the life of mechanical machinery as oppose to

  • Making repairs when often nothing is broke,

  • accommodating failure as routine and normal, and

  • preempting crisis failure maintenance

But, when we generally discuss about proactive maintenance, broader aspect could be include just like when we have a program. That assists in scheduling preventive maintenance at the recommend intervals and monitors. When those tasks are perform it becomes proactive. We are also proactive when we repair and replace components before they are getting failure.

Training plant operators is also program to recognize components when they are showing signs of failure and having procedures to report those are also proactive
