High Quality Objective to accelerate project management

The relationship between purpose and goal
first, this article defines the purpose and goals in this way.

purpose... intended as a state to be reached and oriented in action

goal...

what is the purpose?

the purpose is where to get to it? it refers to building a flag. if you set a purpose, the team will continue to move toward that flag, so it's safe to say that the goal setting defines the value of subsequent tasks.

in addition, there is "strategy" in the word used with the purpose. a strategy is the decision to choose which route to reach your goal. it is not a run. it is a purpose setting to set what to aim to the last.

what are goals?

goals are metrics. in many cases, you set it quantitatively. i think that ~is often set like ~%.

For example, if the purpose of this article is to "minimize uncertainty when considering the purpose of the task, set goals to achieve the purpose in a concrete way, and make it easier to subtask, we will be able to create value as a team", and the goal is to "develop a type (framework) for determining the purpose and goal and make it ready to be verified". * In this case, the goal is not quantitative, but to determine Yes or No.

the importance of setting the purpose of the project
one of the most important things about working as a project manager is team task management. one of the challenges i faced as a project manager who is required to maximize the productivity of a team with different roles is the "misallement of task output due to ambiguous objectives."

specifically

  1. the task's purpose is too abstract.
  2. each of them gets to work with too much uncertainty
  3. specifically leave the purpose of the ambiguous state to each from the breakdown
  4. i couldn't detect the risk of low-achieving objectives until the output came out.
  5. i thought that these were the causes of the output's malfunction. to solve this problem, the team created evaluation criteria for good and non-good objectives.

5C with a good purpose (Why)

SINCE IT IS OFTEN PERSONALIZING TO MEASURE THE QUALITY OF THE GOAL SETTING, WE HAVE CREATED AN INDICATOR THAT ALLOWS THE TEAM TO EVALUATE THE PURPOSE AS A CHECKLIST. THAT'S THE 5C OF PURPOSE.

  • Clear, specific?
  • Consistent Is it connected to the end goal?
  • Consensual Does everyone's interpretations match?
  • Challenging?
  • Creative is it worth it?

these are five. i will explain specifically.

Clear, specific?

a good purpose is specific. we don't use abstract, interpretation words. if you're not specific, go deeper until you agree with your team.

A BAD EXAMPLE "MAKE THE UI FEEL COOL"

A GOOD EXAMPLE "RENEW THE DESIGN OF THE SURFACE OF UI DESIGN AND RAISE BRAND AWARENESS"

Consistent Is it connected to the end goal?

the output of the task must be the input of the next operation, and by continuing to repeat it, the end goal is reached. how does the purpose of the task contribute to the end goal? it is important to come and go from the viewpoint. the value of this item is that facing the most important questions now increases cost effectiveness. reference: start with issues

end-purpose example

  1. company/business vision/mission
  2. personal philosophy
  3. for example, project objectives
  4. Consensual Does everyone's interpretations match?

As clear also mentioned, everyone's interpretations must be consistent in order to minimize objective uncertainty. This is often achieved as a result by carefully matching the other four. The value of matching interpretations is that it makes it easier to divide labor and reduce rework. It is worthwhile to increase the speed.

Challenging?

it's easy to set a low purpose, but it also reduces the value of the output. so, build more challenging goals to stimulate both personal growth and personal motivation.
also, the purpose is always followed by execution. it is even better if it is something that moves people's hearts because it is "people" that ultimately executes.

Creative is it worth it?

Finally, does achieving that goal bring creative value? It is important to have a perspective. It's close to Consistent, but what progress does achieving that goal bring to the project? Let's have a perspective.

GOOD GOALS ARE SET WITH SMART GOALS

FOR GOOD GOAL SETTING, IT IS GOOD TO REFER TO THE FAMILIAR SMART GOAL.

  • Specifit, specific? Clarification?
  • Measureable Is the degree of achievement measurable?
  • Achievable Is it realistically achievable?
  • Has the Related purpose been met? Is it related to a bigger goal?
  • Is the Time-bound deadline fixed?

See below for a detailed explanation.
What are the five points of goal setting "SMART"

Conclusion

as a project manager, improving the purpose and goal quality of the tasks you manage should make a big step forward in the overall productivity of your team.

WE HOPE 5C AND SMART CAN HELP YOU RAISE AWARENESS OF YOUR GOALS AND GOALS AS A TEAM AND TO ACCOMPLISH TASKS STRATEGICALLY AND EFFICIENTLY.
